The Village of Niles has established itself as a committed partner to improving the environment and encouraging sustainable practices. The Village recognizes the importance of government, residents and businesses working together to reach ambitious goals of environmental sustainability. The Green Business Award program promotes environmentally-friendly business practices in Niles.
This program is designed to encourage businesses in Niles to adopt environmentally sustainable practices, such as waste reduction, conservation of water and energy efficiency. The benefits of this program are reduced electric and water utility costs, effective use of building materials, enhanced health and productivity, long-term economic returns and a reduced environmental impact.
The process opens July 15th and accepts applications until September 5th. Winners are announced at the Village Board meeting in December.
How the Program Works:
Businesses in Niles are asked to fill out an application in order to report on their sustainable business practices such as recycling, energy saving efforts, water conservation, and more. Businesses should fill out the entire application and return to Village Hall (either through mail or by emailing knd@vniles.com).
Each application is scored by each member of the selection committee. Scores are added up for each applicant, and a winner is chosen based on the highest score.
