[ARCHIVED] Niles Teen Center- Week of June 29

Please find below information on events and activities taking place at or with the Niles Teen Center in the next couple of weeks.

1) Please join us for the NILES 4th of July parade!!
Come and show the community what Niles youth are all about!!! We’ll join the parade in a truck, provided by Golf Mill Ford, that we will decorate ourselves! Come to party and pass out candy and flyers. Don’t stand on the sidelines; be a part of the parade! Please sign up by Wednesday, July 1 to participate.
Who: Teen Center Members and Friends
Date: Saturday, July 4
Time: 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Where: Starts at Notre Dame College Prep parking lot and ends at Grennan Heights Park (parents meet teens at corner of Monroe and Osceola for pick-up)

2) The Teen Center will be CLOSED on Friday, July 3 so that staff can prepare for the parade.

3) “Girl Talk” Continues on Wednesday, July 1- 4:30-5:30 pm
Girl Talk is a group designed to meet the social emotional needs of teen girls. This group focuses on improving self-esteem, self-image, communication skills, conflict resolution, reducing stressors and addressing other issues teen girls face. Girl Talk meets every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The group is facilitated by Nicole Espinoza, LCSW of Niles Family Services in collaboration with the Niles Teen Center. To participate in the group, please complete and turn in the attached permission slip. 4) Camp Old Navy- Job Shadow Day- Deadline Wed. July 8
Spend four hours at Old Navy (Niles) with Halley for a job shadow experience. Learn about the operation of the fitting rooms, the cash register, how to receive shipments and restock the sales floor. Each participant will get a mid-day snack and a free pair of flip-flops. You will meet at the Teen Center and we will all walk across the street to the Old Navy store.
Date: Wednesday, July 15
Time: 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Cost: Free Min/ Max: 4/15
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, July 8

5) Teen In House Movie Night- Friday, July 10 - 6:00- 8:30 pm- $3 each
Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Bring a pillow or blanket and make yourself at home. All teens will be provided 1 can of soda, 2 bags of chips, and unlimited popcorn. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Fee goes toward additional supervision. No sign-up prior to event is necessary.
Movies choices will be:
St. Vincent (PG-13- Comedy- 102 min) The Fast and the Furious- (PG-13- Action- 107 min) - With his parents preoccupied with their divorce, lonely 12-year-old Oliver strikes up a friendship with his war-veteran neighbor Vincent. A hard-drinking gambler with a fondness for hookers, Vincent finds his life changed by the boy's presence.
Big Hero 6-(PG- Animated-102 min) In this animated adventure, genius robotics engineer Hiro Hamada finds himself enmeshed in a nefarious scheme to wipe out the city of San Fransokyo. Accompanied by his robot best friend, Hero joins a ragtag team intent on saving the City by the Bay.
Taken 3- (PG-13- Action 109 min)- In the final installment of the hit action franchise, former CIA operative Bryan Mills is framed for murder and must use his covert skills to keep himself alive while trying to prove his innocence.

6) If you are new to the Teen Center and are enjoying your time with us, PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN TOO!!!

7) National Day Calendar.
As a Christmas Gift, Mark received a National Day Calendar from his brother-in-law who is a rather unconventional thinker. This calendar does not list the any national, local or state holidays. But instead it is a calendar of fun and random holidays like “Hug a Plumber Day” and “Ice Cream Day”. In the spirit of fun, Mark will be providing these “holidays” each week as random and fun facts for teens and parents to enjoy and potentially use in their social media posts.
