Dangerously Cold Wind Chills Tonight into Tomorrow Morning
Wind Chill Advisory in Effect until Noon CST /1 PM EST/Thursday
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Wind Chill Advisory, which is in effect until noon CST /1 PM EST/ Thursday.
• Timing: Through Thursday Morning
• Wind Chill Values: 15 To 25 below this afternoon falling back to 25 to 30 below zero through Thursday morning then improving above 20 below by late morning Thursday
• Impacts: Frost bite can occur in a matter of minutes on exposed skin. Extended exposure without proper clothing will increase the risk of hypothermia
• Confidence: It is possible that a few locations may seem colder than 30 below wind chill readings overnight for a brief time, but the general area should experience 25 to 30 below readings.
Precautionary/ Preparedness Actions: A wind chill advisory means that the wind will combine with the very cold air to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
