Over a period of many years, the parking in the Nordica area in Niles has become progressively challenging as household transportation needs have evolved. What may have been a one car household in the 1960s, is now a two to three car household in 2013, putting great pressure on limited area parking.
Over the years, the Village of Niles has communicated with nearby property owners to assist with the parking shortage. Culver School, which sits just west of North Nordica Avenue, understands the parking situation and even allows some regulated relief for area residents. However, other opportunities to park in nearby business parking lots has dwindled with increased business activity, leaving area residents to park to the south along public side streets.
A recent Special Service Area (SSA) agreement between the owner of Nordica Apartments and the Village of Niles will now greatly help the parking situation with the construction of 56 new spaces. Although this parking is limited to Nordica Apartment residents, this new parking will free up area street parking and greatly reduce the need for parking to the south on residential side streets.
Culver School parking lot requirements below must be followed or a vehicle will be towed at owners expense:
- No overnight parking December 1 to April 1
- Overnight parking allowed April 1st to November 30th - cars must be moved by 6 a.m.
- No parking allowed 6:01 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- No parking in Library designated spots at any time
