Thomas Kanelos and Karen Dimond Appointed to the Niles Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

At the June 26, 2007, Board Meeting, Mayor Nicholas B. Blase appointed Thomas N. Kanelos, Co-owner of MKM Builders, LLC, and Karen J. Dimond, Assistant State’s Attorney, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, to the Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.

Karen Dimond has been a Niles resident since 1989 and has been an attorney for 27 years, always representing government bodies, state, county or local. Ms. Dimond served on the District 63 School Board for eight years and has an interest in building, architecture and land use. She was also a tour guide with the Chicago Architectural Foundation for over 25 years.

Tom Kanelos has also been a resident of Niles since September of 1989 and in the residential construction business for over 20 years. His firm builds custom and semi-custom homes in Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. Mr. Kanelos also has extensive experience serving on boards of various religious and educational institutions. He looks forward to using both his professional experience and volunteer experience for the good of the Niles community. He has a degree in economics from the University of Illinois in Champaign.

The Plan Commission makes recommendations to the mayor and Board of Trustees concerning land suitable for annexation and subdivisions of real estate. The Zoning Board of Appeals holds public hearings jointly with the Plan Commission to consider petitions for variations to the Village’s Zoning Ordinance.
