Recycle your compact fluorescent light bulbs

Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Recycling
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) and the Village of Niles is sponsoring a CFL recycling program. You may bring your household CFL bulbs to the following two locations:
- Niles Senior Center - 999 Civic Center Drive, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Niles Public Services - 6849 Touhy Avenue, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Why recycle your CFL household light bulbs? Each CFL contains a small amount of mercury sealed within the glass and although CFLs are very safe to use in your home, it is environmentally prudent to dispose of them properly.
When may I start bringing in my CFL light bulbs? February 1, 2008. There is no end date. It is recommended for bulbs to be placed in a sealed plastic storage bag during transport.
