Lightbulb

Recycle your compact fluorescent light bulbs
Sponsored by the Niles Environmental Committee in cooperation with SWANCC

Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Recycling

The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) and the Village of Niles is sponsoring a CFL recycling program. You may bring your household CFL bulbs to the following two locations:

  • Niles Senior Center - 999 Civic Center Drive, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Niles Public Services - 6849 Touhy Avenue, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Why recycle your CFL household light bulbs? Each CFL contains a small amount of mercury sealed within the glass and although CFLs are very safe to use in your home, it is environmentally prudent to dispose of them properly.

When may I start bringing in my CFL light bulbs? February 1, 2008. There is no end date. It is recommended for bulbs to be placed in a sealed plastic storage bag during transport.

For more information contact SWANCC at 847-724-9205.
