[ARCHIVED] Municipal Electric Aggregation Supplier Selected

On April 9, 2013, a referendum was approved by residents to allow the Village of Niles to create an opt-out municipal electric aggregation program for eligible residential and small business customers (less than 15,000 kWh/year).

On July 10, 2013, the Village of Niles conducted an online auction for electric suppliers and determined that Homefield Energy offered the most competitive rate, which is more favorable than the current ComEd rate to compare. Homefield Energy offered an electricity supply rate of $0.05316/kWh versus the current ComEd rate to compare of $0.059932. Homefield Energy is also pleased to offer customers a 100% green energy option at the rate of $0.05415/kWh. Based on these rates, customers who use about 12,000 kWh of electricity a year would realize a savings of about $81 a year.

Aggregation agreements such as this will always coincide with the annual ComEd rate release date of June 1, so this is a nine-month agreement. Energy Savings Plan members who wish to switch to this program will be able to enter the program with no fee. Customers will begin to be switched over from ComEd to Homefield with their September or October meter reading.

Eligible residential and small business customers will be receiving a notice in the coming weeks via mail which will allow them to either opt-out of the program or select the 100% green energy option. If you do not opt-out of the program, you will be automatically enrolled. If you have additional questions on this program, please contact Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262.
