Niles Acting Mayor Robert M. Callero announced January 9th the formation of an Ethics Committee, comprised of Trustee Joseph LoVerde, Trustee Louella Preston and himself. LoVerde is the Executive Director of the Niles Park District and Preston is an attorney and educator. Mayor Callero started the process in November of creating greater controls and checks and balances in Niles government. A plan is currently being formulated by a team of two attorneys, one being a former Assistant U.S. Attorney. Callero has advocated a resident hot-line to report any unethical activities of Niles officials and/or employees. The full plan will be presented to the Ethics Committee and then Callero will take it to the full Board of Trustees, hopefully by the February board meeting. Callero will also ask the committee to review if further written interpretation of the Niles Employee Handbook is necessary.
