In keeping with guidance from the CDC, and in light of the State of Illinois’ transition to Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan, the Village of Niles will end its universal mask-wearing requirement for Village facilities. Effective Friday, June 11, 2021, masks are optional for visitors who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Individuals who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are still required to wear a mask when visiting Village facilities.
The following facilities are impacted by this policy: Village of Niles Village Hall; Niles Senior Center; Niles Family Fitness Center; Niles Public Works; Niles Police Department; Niles Fire Department.
Similarly, Village employees will not have to wear a mask at work if vaccinated. Employees who have not been vaccinated will have to wear a mask at work when unable to maintain social distancing, and any time they are interacting with members of the public. All Niles Fire Department personnel (regardless of vaccination status) will continue to wear masks and protective glasses on all EMS calls.
Niles Family Services and the Niles Teen Center will retain more stringent policies based on the unique nature of those departments. Visitors of those departments will be kept up to date on the latest policies.
For the June 11 transition to Phase 5, the Niles Family Fitness Center has returned all fitness equipment to its regular location, and reservations are no longer required for lap swim and water classes. It will continue to offer some of its popular virtual programming. The Niles Senior Center is reintroducing more of its regular offerings, such as card-playing groups, and is returning furniture to its lobby area to once again allow informal gathering and visiting. The Senior Center will also continue an assortment of virtual programming. Trips organized by the Senior Center will be offered again starting in September. Other Village Departments have gradually returned to normal operations for most of their services.
