The Village of Niles is pleased to announce that the Niles Administration Building (Village Hall) will begin reopening to the public on Monday, June 15, 2020. Village Hall will initially begin with a “soft opening” schedule, open until noon each day, Monday through Friday. Departments will open at their regular times (Community Development at 8:00am, Finance and Administration at 8:30am). Niles Public Works will also reopen to the public on Monday, opening at its normal time of 7:00am, and closing to the public at noon each day. Most employees have returned to work at this time, and are preparing for reopening. New safety precautions are in place at Village facilities. Visitors to Village Hall will find increased signage, social distancing floor markers, stanchions and barriers to organize lines as individuals wait for services, plexiglass shields between employees and residents at front counters, and hand sanitizer stations throughout the building. Visitors and employees must wear a face covering. Visitors must bring their own face covering. Public meetings will continue to take place remotely. Vehicle stickers will be available for sale or renewal at Village Hall during the limited hours it is open. All are encouraged to use online renewal (www.vniles.com/onlinebillpay) or mail-in renewal at this time for added convenience and safety. The Niles Senior Center will remain closed and all in-house programs suspended, through August. Staff will continue to offer virtual programming opportunities during the COVID-19 program closure and a number of programs and services will be available including Meals on Wheels, the Medical Lending closet, the Friendly Visitor Program (via phone), telephone reassurance calls, the Pen Pal program and telephone appointments for Medicare counseling and the Benefit Access program. Senior Center Director Kelly Mickle explains “As the Village continues to monitor the COVID-19 Pandemic we believe that this decision, although difficult, is in the best interests of the senior community.” We truly appreciate the guidance of our members as we all discover new ways to stay connected in these uncertain times, and look forward to the time when it is safe to reopen the building and resume regular programming.” The Niles Teen Center will be hosting weekly virtual activities, challenges, and interactive games, as well as outdoor summer events and competitions throughout the coming months and in compliance with social distancing guidelines. More information will follow on exciting new initiatives from the Teen Center. The Niles Family Fitness Center will begin phased reopenings on June 29, 2020, pending the State of Illinois moving into Phase 4. The Niles Police Department and Niles Fire Department remain open to the public.
