[ARCHIVED] Niles Teen Center- Week of July 8

Please find below information on events and activities taking place at or with the Niles Teen Center in the next couple of weeks.

 

Summer hours continue Tuesday to Friday- 2:00-6:00 pm

Parents- please remember that teens need to be picked up no later than 6pm or instructed to walk home.

Staff will wait to make sure middle school age teens are all picked up before they leave for the night.


New Teen Center Staff- JC Garcia

JC Garcia was recently hired as the new PT supervisor at the teen center.  JC has a bachelor’s degree in social work and is a fluent Spanish speaker.  He has been working in guest relations for Niles Family Services for the past 5 years.  JC enjoys hiking, video games, playing with his animals, going to concerts, sneakers, cooking and grilling.  He has 2 siblings, 2 nieces and 1 nephew who he is very close to.  JC is looking forward to getting to know all of the teens and bringing some new and unique experiences to the teen center.

Game Tournament- Wed. July 10- Pop A Shot- 4:00-5:30 pm
Most Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tournaments for video games and table games like Foosball, Air Hockey, Darts, NBA2K16 or Call of Duty 3. Prizes may be awarded to winners.


Oasis Water Park Trip- deadline Thurs. July 11- $3 each
Come join the Niles Teen Center as we travel (via the Niles Free Bus) to the Niles Park District’s Oasis Fun Center for a day of swimming and water slides. You must be at the Teen Center by 10:15 a.m. Make sure to bring appropriate swimwear (boys must have inside liner in trunks), beach towel and dry clothes for the bus ride back to the Teen Center. Bring extra money for the concession stand and quarters for the lockers. We will swim from about 11:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Date: Wednesday, July 17

Time: 10:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cost: $3.00 

Min/Max: 5/25
Registration Deadline: Thursday, July 11

If we don’t have at least 5 registered by Thursday 7/11, we will have to cancel.  If we have at least 5, then we will be able to extend the deadline.  If you want to go, please make sure you get signed up.

 

Activities with Crissy- Thurs. July 11- “Street” Art- 4:00- 5:30 pm
Crissy will be leading us in some creative artwork, using sidewalk chalk, just outside Golf Mill Mall on the sidewalk.


Friday, July 12- Teen “In-House” Movie Night- 6:00- 8:00 pm- $4 each

Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Fee goes toward additional supervision. No sign-up prior to event is necessary.

Happy Death Day 2 U- (PG13- Horror/Suspense)- 1hour 40 min- It's déjà vu all over again for Tree Gelbman, the snarky sorority sister who solved her own murder by repeatedly reliving her death. When the masked campus killer mysteriously returns to terrorize new targets, Tree cycles through another time loop of clever chills and suspense. (Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews)

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (PG- Family Adventure/Fantasy)- 1hour 45 min- When the sudden appearance of a female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. In this last chapter, Hiccup and Toothless will finally discover their true destinies, and dragon and rider will fight together to protect everything they've grown to treasure. Summer Reading Challenge: It’s Showtime @ Your Library- Saturday, June 1 – Friday, August 23-Grades 7-12
Sign up in the Teen Underground to get a reading log and a temporary tattoo. Complete your log and

 

exchange it for a bandana, plus entry in the weekly and grand prize drawings. No more than 1 log per day, please. Check items off the summer bucket list to include on your reading log. Complete the entire bucket list for a tote bag full of bonus prizes. Complete as many logs as you like over the summer for more chances to win!  Grand Prizes: Nintendo Switch/ Broadway in Chicago gift certificate

Second Saturday Breakfast Bingo - Grades K-8

 

Saturday, July 13: 9:30am - 10:15am

 

Drop in and enjoy some breakfast treats as we play Bingo. Enjoy a kick-start to your weekend with a morning of family fun and prizes at the Library.

ID cards REQUIRED for TC Attendance
Remember, ALL Teens are REQUIRED to have and USE their teen center ID cards to CHECK-IN to the facility.  Any need for a reprinted ID will be $5 each.  If you don’t have your ID, you will create more work for Mark and he will have to manually check you in.  The new MaxGalaxy software does not allow members to bypass the ID scanner, therefore ALL TEENS MUST USE THEIR ID CARDS TO CHECK-IN.  Thanks!
