[ARCHIVED] Niles Teen Center- Week of February 25

Please find below information on events and activities taking place at or with the Niles Teen Center in the next couple of weeks.

Project with Social Work Interns- Tues. Feb. 26- Peace Circle-4:00-5:30 pm

Join Jackie and Lacey as they lead a Peace Circle, a collective group process to solve problems and express individual feelings.


Game Tournament- Wed. Feb. 27- Bumper Pool- 4:30-6:00 pm
Most Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tournaments for video games and table games like Foosball, Air Hockey, Darts, NBA2K16 or Call of Duty 3. Prizes may be awarded to winners.


Friday, March 1st- Teen “In-House” Movie Night- 7:00pm to 9:00 pm- $4 each

Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Fee goes toward additional supervision. No sign-up prior to event is necessary.

Movie Choices will be …

Night School (Pg-13- Comedy- 1hour 50 min)- Brought together by their mutual lack of a high school degree, a group of oddballs shares the unpleasant necessity of taking adult evening classes to prepare for their equivalency exam-- an effort that soon devolves into comic chaos. (Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Rob Riggle)

Johnny English Strikes Again (PG- Comedy- 1hour 30 min)- With all of its undercover agents unmasked in a cyberattack, the British secret service has no one to turn to except ex-spy Johnny English.  Plucked from his teaching job, Johnny must use all of his (dubious) skills to nab the hacker. (Rowen Atkinson, Olga Kurylenko, Jake Lacy)

Bohemian Rhapsody (Pg-13- Drama- 2 hr 15 min)- Born in Zanzibar, Farrokh Bulsara emigrated to England in his teens and formed the band Queen in 1970 under his new name, Freddy Mercury.  This biopic charts the group’s first 15 years, culminating with their Live Aid performance in 1985. (Rami Malek, Ben Hardy, Gwilym Lee)

Project with Social Work Interns- Thurs. March 7- Milkshakes-4:00-5:30 pm

Join Shelby to make homemade milkshakes using vanilla or chocolate ice cream. Yummy!!


Friday, March 8- Bring a Friend Friday
On a selected Friday each month, if a current member brings a friend as a guest, both teens will receive a free soda and bag of chips.  If the guest, purchases a membership, the current member and new member will receive a $5 gift certificate for a local store (like Subway or Gloria Jeans Coffee) or $10 to Kappy’s Restaurant.


Speaker Series- Thursday, March 14- 5:00-6:00 pm- Magic of Gary Kantor

Gary will offer a demonstration of some magic tricks and slight of hand.  If you’re lucky, he may even teach you how to do some tricks yourself!!

 

Project with Social Work Interns- Tues. March 12- Paper Airplane Game-4:00-5:30 pm

Join Jackie and Lacey as they lead a contest for the best flying paper airplane. So much fun!!


Spring Break Trips

 

Windy City Ninjas Trip (No School- Spring Break)- Deadline Wed. March 13

 

Join us as we travel to Windy City Ninjas in Elmhurst, IL! They will provide coaches in the gym to instruct, guide and spot the kids through multiple obstacle circuits (each circuit is 7 - 10 diff obstacles) for ~ 60 minutes. Then for 15 minutes we will run a team ninja warrior competition, dividing into two teams and they race identical obstacle courses against each other. Finally, for the last 15 minutes we do a combination of ninja challenges and open time. This trip will depart from the Maine Park Leisure Center in Park Ridge.

 

Date: Monday March 25      

 

Time: 12:15 pm- 3:15 pm

Escape Room Schaumburg (No School- Spring Break)- Deadline Thurs. March 14

 

Join us as we try to become real life escape artists at the Escape Room in Schaumburg, IL.  We need your help to try and break out of one of their themed rooms.  Be sure to bring extra money as we will be stopping for lunch on the way home.  Price includes transportation and supervision.  This trip will depart from the Maine Park Leisure Center in Park Ridge.

Book Discussion: Anna and the Swallow Man-Friday, March 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m.- Grades 7+

 

Set in Poland during WWII, Anna and the Swallow Man is a story of survival, love, and sacrifice. Get a copy at the Teen Desk to read and discuss for our Coming Together celebration of Polish culture.

Go to www.NilesTeenCenter.org.  Click Online Registration (left side of page)

 

Click Login (top right of page)

 

Click forgot password

 

Type in the email you verified with the Teen Center

 

You will be sent an email with a link to reset your password.  Type your password, verify your password and click submit.

 

Click Login to access your account

 

Click on My Account

 

You are now able to enter all Family Account Information

 


 

With your online account, you will be able to register and pay online for events and activities like movie night and trips.  However, you will not be able to renew your membership.  Memberships must be renewed in person through the Teen Center office.Ant

 


 

Policy and Procedure Manual
Teen Center staff has developed a policy and procedure manual.  The information included is intended for teens and parents, as well as staff, explaining our standard procedures of operation and explaining behavior expectations and consequences for teen participants.
Parents, please review this document with your teen participant.  Thanks!

 


 

ID cards REQUIRED for TC Attendance
Remember, ALL Teens are REQUIRED to have and USE their teen center ID cards to CHECK-IN to the facility.  Any need for a reprinted ID will be $5 each.  If you don’t have your ID, you will create more work for Mark and he will have to manually check you in.  The new MaxGalaxy software does not allow members to bypass the ID scanner, therefore ALL TEENS MUST USE THEIR ID CARDS TO CHECK-IN.  Thanks!
