[ARCHIVED] Smoke Testing 12/6-12/14

Niles Public Works and Hey & Associates staff will be performing smoke testing of select sanitary sewers December 6-14, weather and equipment permitting. Notices will be distributed to affected properties this week. Village engineers will communicate directly with Gemini School and the IceLand ice rink. Extra care is going to be taken to minimize any smoke in the sewer line at the school.

The “smoke” is non-toxic, non-staining, odorless, and creates no fire hazard.  It should not enter a building unless there is defective plumbing or dried drain traps. Public Works advises residents to pour a gallon of water into their drain traps prior to testing.  People are encouraged to call Hey & Associates at (262) 366-5879 if they have a respiratory problem or if smoke enters their home.

Crews will begin smoke testing in the northern locations on Thursday and work their way south.  Please see the maps and FAQ document below for additional information.
