Summer Hours continue- 2:00- 6:00 pm – Tuesday to Friday
Regular hours of 2:45-7:00 pm resume on Tuesday, August 15.
Mark- expecting baby #2 this weekend
Mark and his wife Colleen are expecting their 2nd child, a little baby girl this weekend. As of Friday 7/21 at 5:00 pm, the baby has not yet arrived. Expect that Mark will be out of the office from Monday 7/24 through Friday, July 28. He will send a birth announcement when baby girl arrives. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Game Tournament- Knock Out- Wed. July 26 - 4:30-5:30 pm
Most Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tournaments for video games and table games like Foosball, Air Hockey, Darts, NBA2K16 or Call of Duty 3. Prizes may be awarded to winners.
Craft Project- Thurs. July 27- Marbled Clay Ring Dish- 4:00- 5:00 pm
Join Maddie is creating a ring dish using different colors of clay. This will be perfect for holding jewelry on your dresser.
Teen Center Staffing Changes
Mark has hired Jamie Kowalczyk to replace Ann on the Teen Center staff. Jamie will be starting this week for limited hours. Jamie grew up in Mount Prospect and graduated from Prospect High School in 2013. She is a recent grad from the University of Evansville with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Studio Art. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and listening to new music with friends and family. She also enjoys trying out all different types of crafts and DIY projects. She has worked as a camp counselor as well as with afterschool programs in Evansville for the past three years. She is excited to start her next chapter at the Teen Center!
Jamie will be putting in limited hours the next couple of weeks as she finishes up with her job at the Des Plaines Park District. She will be at the Teen Center for our full regular hours beginning Tuesday, August 8
Ann’s last day will be Friday, August 11 and Nick’s last day will be Friday, August 18.
Mark is still looking for another new staff member to replace Nick. If you know anyone that might be interested, please have them contact Mark ASAP.
New Furniture, Equipment, games/movies
The teen center recently made lots of upgrades including 21 new couches in the TV lounge, a new dome hockey table to replace the foosball, painted the restaurant benches and tables, installed 6 new tables in the computer lab (gaining about 3 feet of space to move around the room). This is the first new furniture that we have been able to purchase. We are replacing lots of donated furniture and equipment, some of which was over 20 years old and showing heavy wear. See the attachment for before and after pictures.
Also, this week Mark replaced the electronic dart board, replace the electronic scoring unit on the air hockey table 5- 12 month Playstation network subscriptions and bought a bunch of new DVD movies including Anchorman series, Austin Powers series, Wayne’s World series, Joe Dirt, Talladega Nights and Waterboy.
Now Hiring- Play and Spin- 7631 N. Caldwell
Play and Spin is a new business opening soon in Niles at the corner of Howard and Caldwell. They are looking for full time and part time employees. Play and Spin is an entertainment complex including go-kart, arcade games, food and a nail salon. The application is attached if you’re interested in applying.
National Night Out- Tuesday, August 1- 6:00-9:00 pm
The Niles Police Department will hold the National Night Out Against Crime and Drugs. This is a
community-building event to develop and improve relationships with neighbors, community members and local businesses to prevent and stop crime. This event is held internationally on the first Tuesday in August. Other communities will be simultaneously holding their events. This will include a “flashlight walk,” “dunk a cop,” donut eating contest, DUI simulation driving and more. Come enjoy the fun and build the community spirit at this great event.

Magic Water Waterpark Trip- Deadline Wed. Aug 2- $40
Beat the heat this summer at one of the best waterparks in Illinois! Zip down the Typhoon Terror or chill out in the Splash Magic River; there is something for everyone. Cost includes transportation, supervision, and
admission (must be 42-48" tall for most rides). Bring money for lunch and dinner. This trip is being offered with the Park Ridge Park District. Trip may depart from the Maine Park Leisure Center or Niles Teen Center.

Teen Movie “Night OUT”- Friday, August 18- 7:00-9:30 pm- $9 each

All children 18 and under in the D63 community (whether or not they attend D63 schools) are eligible for a free, cold breakfast or lunch this summer at specific school buildings during our summer programs (program participation isn't required).

Summer Reading 2017: Reading By Design- June 1- August 15- Grades 7-12
Design your own reading challenge! Sign up in the Teen Underground to get a reading log and super 4-color pen. Complete 1 of 3 paths on your log and exchange it for a Boogie Bot, plus entry in the weekly and grand prize drawings. Stop by the Teen Underground each week to complete a design challenge, which can be counted on your log. Complete as many logs as you like over the summer for more chances to win!
Duct Tape Designs- Registration required- Tues., July 25, 4:00-5:30pm- Grades 6-12
Teens have fun creating a colorful coin purse or wallet out of duct tape. All materials will be provided.

With your online account, you will be able to register and pay online for events and activities like movie night and trips. However, you will not be able to renew your membership. Memberships must be renewed in person through the Teen Center office.
Policy and Procedure Manual
Teen Center staff recently developed a policy and procedure manual. The information included is intended for teens and parents, as well as staff, explaining our standard procedures of operation and explaining behavior expectations and consequences for teen participants.

ID cards REQUIRED for TC Attendance
Remember, ALL Teens are REQUIRED to have and USE their teen center ID cards to CHECK-IN to the facility. Any need for a reprinted ID will be $5 each. If you don’t have your ID, you will create more work for Mark and he will have to manually check you in. The new MaxGalaxy software does not allow members to bypass the ID scanner, therefore ALL TEENS MUST USE THEIR ID CARDS TO CHECK-IN. Thanks!
