[ARCHIVED] Niles Teen Center- Week of April 24

Please find below information on events and activities taking place at or with the Niles Teen Center in the next couple of weeks.

 

STEAM Project- Tuesday April 25- 4:00- 6:00- FLUFFY SLIME!!

On most Tuesdays, staff will offer projects related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).  These could include science experiments, art drawings, or construction of a marble run.

Fluffy Slime- This week, we will make a new twist on the traditional slime recipe by using shaving cream to make it FLUFFY!!!

 

Girls Group- Continues Wednesday, April 26 from 4:00- 5:00 pm

Have you had a rough week at school? Are you juggling too many responsibilities and feeling stressed? Having a conflict with a friend? Or maybe you just want to share ideas with other teens? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please join us for group! Girls group is Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00, and boys group is Thursdays from 4:00-5:00.
These groups are designed to meet the social and emotional needs of teens. They focus on improving self-esteem/self-image, communication skills, conflict resolution, reducing stressors and addressing other challenges teens face. The groups are facilitated by Nicole Espinoza and Darren Brown of Niles Family Services.

Game Tournament- League of Legends- Friday, April 28 - 4:00-6:00 pm
Most Fridays at 4:00 p.m., the Teen Center staff will set up tournaments for video games and table games like Foosball, Air Hockey, Darts, NBA2K16 or Call of Duty 3. Prizes may be awarded to winners.


Boys Group- Continues Thursday, May 4 from 4:00- 5:00 pm


Speaker Series- Wednesday, May 17- 4:00- 5:00 pm- Peace Circle with Native/Indigenous Grandmothers

In cooperation with Niles Family Services, native/indigenous grandmothers Flordemayo (Mayan tradition) and grandmother Mary Lyons (Ojibwa tradition) are coming to the Teen Center to create a circle for support, safety and communication.  Come join us in the circle and remember how important you are!

Fri. May 5- Teen “In House” Movie Night- 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm- $4 each

Come to the Teen Center for Teen Movie Nights. Stop by or call to recommend a teen movie. All movies will be PG or PG-13. Bring a pillow or blanket and make yourself at home. Additional snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Fee goes toward additional supervision. No sign-up prior to event is necessary.

Movie Choices will be:

Masterminds (PG-13- Comedy/Action- 1 ½ hours)- In this offbeat comedy, four lunkhead Southerners pull of one of the most brazen heists in U.S. history, stealing $17.3 million and getting away with it- at first.  When the FBI launches an investigation, the thieves find the noose tightening.  (Zack Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sukekis, Leslie Jones)

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (PG-13 Action/Thriller- 2 hours)- Jack Reacher returns with his particular brand of justice in the highly anticipated sequel.  When Army Major Susan Turner, who heads Reacher’s old investigative unit, is arrested for treason, Reacher will stop at nothing to prove her innocence and to uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy involving soldiers who are being killed.  (Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh)

Trolls- (PG- Animation- 1 ½ hours)- Inspired by the beloved troll dolls that have entertained kids for decades, this animated tale follows the always-happy Princess Poppy and her grouchy survivalist companion Branch as they embark on a journey that takes them into an unfamiliar world.  (Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, Gwen Stefani)

Go to www.NilesTeenCenter.org.  Click Online Registration (left side of page)

Click Login (top right of page)

Click forgot password

Type in the email you verified with the Teen Center

You will be sent an email with a link to reset your password.  Type your password, verify your password and click submit.

Click Login to access your account

Click on My Account

You are now able to enter all Family Account Information

With your online account, you will be able to register and pay online for events and activities like movie night and trips.  However, you will not be able to renew your membership.  Memberships must be renewed in person through the Teen Center office.

 

Policy and Procedure Manual
Teen Center staff recently developed a policy and procedure manual.  The information included is intended for teens and parents, as well as staff, explaining our standard procedures of operation and explaining behavior expectations and consequences for teen participants.
Parents, please review this document with your teen participant.  Thanks!

ID cards REQUIRED for TC Attendance
Remember, ALL Teens are REQUIRED to have and USE their teen center ID cards to CHECK-IN to the facility.  Any need for a reprinted ID will be $5 each.  If you don’t have your ID, you will create more work for Mark and he will have to manually check you in.  The new MaxGalaxy software does not allow members to bypass the ID scanner, therefore ALL TEENS MUST USE THEIR ID CARDS TO CHECK-IN.  Thanks!
