[ARCHIVED] Speed Enforcement on Residential Streets

The Niles Police Department would like to remind residents of The Village of Niles to watch their speeds when driving on residential streets. Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit within the village is 25 mph. The speed limit in all alleys is 15 mph.

“The maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching an intersection or when special hazards exist such as pedestrians or bicyclists,” states Chief of Police Dean Strzelecki.

In addition, speed trailers, unmarked vehicles, and the assistance of volunteers to identify speeding vehicles on residential streets will be utilized to assist with enforcement. Officers will issue warnings and citations and will potentially make arrests if the actions of drivers are identified as reckless driving and endangering the public.

Please exercise caution when driving on all residential streets in the Village of Niles and beyond.
