The Human Resources Department develops and maintains personnel policies and programs including recruitment, training, benefit administration, coordination of insurance programs, employee relations, salary administration, new employee orientation, record keeping and compliance with applicable regulations and laws.

This department also provides employee development. The Village of Niles provides training and development opportunities for the employees in the areas of compliance, customer service, leadership development and other topics. To ensure a safe work environment, safety training, committee meetings and safety events and programs are held.

Compensation and Benefits

To support the development and maintenance of the Village-wide classification system, the Human Resources Department prepares and maintains job descriptions and completes salary surveys when necessary.

This division provides administrative support for the employee retirement plan, self-insured comprehensive medical and dental plan and vision plan. Other employee benefit programs include health services, life insurance, voluntary short term disability, pension programs, unemployment compensation, deferred income programs, vacation, sick leave, longevity and holiday pay programs. The department is responsible for the administration of Village personnel policy and procedures.

This form is to be used by any citizen involved in an accident or incident occurring on municipal property which required first-aid or hospital treatment, or resulted in alleged property damage as a result of the accident or incident.  By processing your claim, the Village does not assume responsibility, nor does it agree your claim will be covered.  Consequently, it is recommended you file a claim with your own insurance carrier.

Under PSEBA, employers are required to pay the health insurance premiums of former public safety officers if those public safety officers suffered a “catastrophic injury.”  Employee resources for PSEBA can be found at CGFA's website here or can be access by contacting the Village's HR Department. In June 2018, the Village of Niles passed an Ordinance establishing an administrative procedure for PSEBA.
