- Fees for day trips are non-refundable within 10 working days of the trip if a replacement cannot be found. Please call and speak with a staff person and let them know you cannot attend the trip. We will do our best to find a replacement for you on the trip. If we are successful, you will be given a credit on your account or issued a refund check.

Walk with the Nurse- On The 606!

(Anticipate very heavy walking) Join Village of Niles nurse Brigitte Powidzki, RN, BSN as she leads a group walk through The 606. The transformed Bloomingdale Trail went from an abandoned section of rail line to a brand-new 2.7-mile recreation path stretching through Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park and brings together arts, history, and green, open space for people who love the outdoors. The walk will begin at the quaint Jane’s Restaurant in Bucktown where we will be treated to acclaimed contemporary comfort food. The menu includes your choice of one of the following: gluten-free chopped garden salad, chopped Asian chicken salad, Jane’s prime beef burger, housemade quinoa-vegetable garden burger, or seared chicken breast sandwich along with a beverage. Please make selection at time of registration. Next, we will take a guided tour of renowned St. Mary of the Angels Church. Bearing a remarkable resemblance to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St. Mary of the Angels has been acclaimed as one of the finest specimens of Roman Renaissance architecture in the United States. Our final stop will be in Humboldt Park with a dessert visit to Roeser’s Bakery, the oldest family owned bakery in Chicago. The trail also includes numerous art installations for your viewing pleasure. (PLEASE NOTE: This outing will include extensive walking. Wine Tours

Tabor Hill Winery and Restaurant- We will enjoy a casual walking tour along the vineyard and through one of the most modern winemaking facilities in the country. Lunch and a wine tasting will follow the tour.
Dablon Winery and Vineyard- Our second tour and wine tasting will be at Dablon Winery and Vineyard. Once home to vineyards of concord grapes, the soils are ideal and the climate conditions are similar to Burgundy, creating a perfect growing area for viniferous vines. Unique to the hilly location, the terraced vineyard blocks are a beautiful sight to be seen, with 30 acres of estate-grown grapes, a tasting room overlooking the vineyards and new production facility.
Lemon Creek Winery and Fruit Farm- Our final wine testing of the day will be at Lemon Creek Winery and Fruit Farm. Home to the first commercial planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in the state of Michigan, the Lemon family farms approximately 170 acres of wine grapes and about 60 acres of a variety of fruits.

Dinner will be at the Hard Rock Café in Four Winds Casino.

The day will begin with a breakfast buffet, followed by an optional tour of Green Spirit Farms which practices sustainable vertical farming. Their mission is to provide local communities with high-quality, fresh, pesticide-free, Non-GMO, sustainably-grown produce at a fair price. Before we leave Michigan, we will enjoy lunch overlooking the New Buffalo Harbor at Bentwood Tavern. Bentwood Tavern features “artisan comfort cuisine” crafted by local icon, Chef Jenny Drilon. Everything is scratch made from only the highest quality, and whenever possible, locally grown ingredients. 

Dean Martin Show at White Fence Farms

White Fence Farms presents the life and career of Dean Martin.  This fun-filled extravaganza featuring a plethora of sing-along hits, as well as Dean’s trademark tipsy brand of side-splitting humor, will keep you laughing well after the show is over. All Aboard to the Morton Arboretum

Experience the beauty of the Arboretum’s 1,700 acres on a guided tram tour. This one-hour ride winds you through the Arboretum’s woodlands, wetlands, and prairie while listening to a narrated tour.  We will be having a boxed lunch after the tram tour.  During our visit the glass pumpkin patch demonstrations & exhibition will be at the Arboretum.  Watch demonstrations by featured glass-blower, Shannon Jane Morgan and other artists, as they dramatically turn bits of glass into stunning molten pumpkin creations.  Feel free to explore the grounds and shops on your own.

Devil in the White City

This tour explores the compelling true story told by Erik Larson in his best-selling book, “The Devil in the White City,” about two simultaneous events in Chicago history: the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 and the emergence of serial murderer Dr. Henry H. Holmes.  We begin the 3.25 hour tour with a presentation featuring period photographs of the Fair and its central characters, followed by a bus tour to locations and buildings that fair goers would have experienced. After our tour we will be heading to Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse.  Lunch will include chef’s selection of assorted meats with side dishes of garlic mashed potatoes, crispy polenta, salad, Brazilian cheese bread and caramelized bananas.  The meal does not include drinks.

Oak Park Winterfest & Zoo Lights

At the Oak Park Winterfest we will catch a glimpse of Saint Nicholas, enjoy a variety of family-friendly acts and warm up inside the hospitality tent with free hot chocolate & coffee.  Feel free to participate in Downtown Oak Park’s annual Cookie Walk (an additional $20 fee at the Winterfest.)  Dinner is on your own.  After the fest we will head to the Zoo where you will have time to explore on your own.  Then we will meet for the Dolphin Show and 45 minute tram ride of Holiday Lights and Wildlife.  This is a community event so everyone is welcome to enjoy the fun!
