The Village collects utility taxes on gas, electric, and telecommunications. Gas is 3.0 cents per therm, electric is charged per kilowatt on a sliding scale, and telecommunication is 6% of gross sales of utilities doing business in Niles. Utility taxes generate about 10% of General Fund revenues each year.
