ADA and Disability Services

The Village of Niles is committed to the principle that persons with disabilities enjoy full access to all public meetings, Village buildings, programs and services the Village of Niles offers. No one can be denied access to a Village activity based on their disability.

The Village will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all its programs, services and activities. Individuals with service animals are welcomed in Village of Niles offices, even where pets are generally prohibited, Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are not considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), thus will not be permitted to enter locations where pets are generally prohibited.

You may file a request for ADA services, such as a sign language interpreter by completing an Accommodation Request Form for a program or event. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the Village of Niles, should contact the office of the program, service or activity coordinator as soon as possible, but no later than forty-eight (48) hours before the scheduled event. Anyone needing mobility or communication access assistance for a public meeting or to conduct business with the Village should contact the Department of Family Services via phone by calling 847-588-8460, TTD: 847-588-8489.

The ADA does not require the Village of Niles to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services or impose an undue financial burden or administrative burden. Complaints that a program, service, or activity of the Village of Niles is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to:

Local governments must comply with the provisions of the ADA. As part of this compliance, the federal government requires that each local government have a process whereby persons who feel that access has been denied to them can appeal. This process is known as the ADA Accessibility Grievance Policy.

The Village of Niles strives to resolve complaints at the local level. If you have a complaint regarding alleged ADA discrimination by the Village with regards to its programs, services, or activities, please complete the ADA Grievance Form and submit it to the Village's ADA Coordinator referenced above.

A copy of the Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan will be available from the ADA / 504 Coordinator. Accessible alternate formats will be made available upon request.
