Economic Development

The Village of Niles contains nearly 4 million square feet of retail space in a variety of shopping centers including Golf Mill Mall, Four Flaggs Shopping Center, Pointe Plaza, and Village Crossing Shopping Center, among others.  The Village generated over $1.5 billion in retail sales in 2018.  The Sterling Organization is planning a comprehensive redevelopment of Golf Mill Mall which may include a mixed-use complex featuring retail, restaurant, entertainment, residential, office, hotel, and recreational uses.  The Golf Mill Mall redevelopment is anticipated to be a catalyst for a renaissance in retail activity along both the Milwaukee Avenue and Golf Road commercial corridors.  The developer plans to restore Golf Mill to its former prominence as one of the Chicago area's premier regional retail destinations.

Niles is also home to a number of business and industrial parks.  Some of the major employers include Shure, FedEx, the Bradford Exchange, Coca Cola, Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Costco, and Fresh Farms, among others.  The primary role of the Department of Economic Development is to direct business attraction, business retention, marketing, grant administration, tax increment financing districts, and Village incentive programs.  Economic Development efforts are also focused upon numerous other development and redevelopment initiatives throughout the Village including the following:

* Golf Mill Mall Redevelopment
* Transit-Oriented Development in proximity to the Metra North Line
* Entertainment District in proximity to the Leaning Tower YMCA
* Golf Mill Park
* Redevelopment in the Village's TIF Districts
* Light industrial development and redevelopment

The Village continues to attract new restaurant offerings to Niles. Some of the newest restaurants include the following:
* Panera Bread
* Chick-Fil-A
* Panda Express
* McAllister's Deli
