The Niles Fire Department in cooperation with the Boy Scouts Of America is sponsoring a Fire Service Explorer Program. The Program is for young adults ages 14-21, Male or Female, that are interested in learning about the fire service. This program will give an insight into the firefighting, rescue, and Emergency Medical aspects of the fire service.
This will be accomplished by giving young adults training in the following areas:
- Fire Operations/Suppression
- Hazardous Materials
- Emergency Medical Services
This will help Explorers to make an informed decision as to whether or not this could be a career direction they wish to pursue.
Niles Fire Explorer Post #28 was started in May 1999. We currently have 8 members and we are looking for approximately 15 members. This is a valuable program for anyone that thinks they may want to become a firefighter/paramedic.
In the past year we have concentrated on many aspects of firefighting including hose, SCBA, public education, CPR, emergency medical training as well as hands on training. There is a ride-along program available for members who have been on the post for a year.
In the future the explorers will be involved in any large emergencies that happen to occur in our jurisdiction.
We are involved in Public Education, the Fourth of July Parade, and many other activities.
If you have any questions or would like to join Explorer Post #28, please contact
FF/P Jim Leibach at (847)588-6800.
