Celebrating Ten Years of Twinning

A delegation from Leixlip (County Kildare) Ireland arrived in Niles on June 30, 2009 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of our Sister City bond.  Twinning, as its known in Leixlip, establishes a personal relationship between citizens of two countries.  This relationship promotes a better understanding of politics, cultures and economies.

Several business and social functions are planned for the week, culminating with a celebration dinner Sunday that is open to all residents.                                  

The mission of Sister Cities International is to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation - one individual, one community at a time.  In addition to Leixlip, the Village of Niles has a Sister City relationship with Pisa, Italy; Napflion, Greece; and Limanowa, Poland.

All expenses of the Sister Cities program are funded by private donations.  The annual fundraiser, Taste of Sister Cities, is held annually in November at the White Eagle Banquet Hall in Niles.
